Why Healthcare Needs Secure Information Exchange
In this interview with David Lee, Product Marketing Manager for OpenText EasyLink, Health IT News Editor Bernie Monegain asks how cloud-based information exchange services can help healthcare institutions meet tightening regulatory requirements without breaking the bank or, more importantly, sacrificing the quality of care they deliver.
Among other things, Lee talked about what he called “The Three Cs” as driving forces in healthcare IT adoption: Capacity, Compliance, and Cost. The best way to work within capacity, comply with industry regulations, and control cost, he said, is to increase efficiency. To do that, healthcare needs to turn to new technologies–especially those that increase the security and lower the cost of exchanging information–and more specifically, those that can operate securely in the cloud.
“Everyone has come to understand that the common enemy is paper,” he said. “….A few years from now we’ll look back and see that this was the time when healthcare really modernized.”
